Mary Amos for
Promising Pages

All children need books in their homes in order to grow academically, but there are an estimated 60,000 children in the Charlotte area living in a book desert. Promising Pages collects new and donated books and distributes them to students and organizations, with the goal of eliminating the book desert and providing a free resource to those who need it most.
If you have books to donate, please contact me to coordinate a drop off. Thanks!

The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center

JIRDC is a large facility in Morganton which is home to about 300 wonderful residents.  Some of the residents have no family or resources to help them celebrate birthdays or holidays, or special events.  Sponsoring a resident financially costs little (like 40 dollars per year) and can mean a lot.  Sponsors can send cards and other gifts throughout the year as they choose.  Volunteering at JIRDC is hands-on, and can involve wrapping Christmas gifts, helping residents get to Chapel on Sunday morning, or other important ways of helping under the direction of Volunteer Services.  Volunteers are vetted via a brief application.  Marsha’s Closet accepts new items and creates a Shopping Experience for residents.  For those residents who can’t get over to Marsha’s Closet, it comes to them!  Donated items include soft clothes, toiletries, puzzles, sleepwear.
